Now Beattie Joins The Exodus To Asia

AUSTRALIAN racing has lost another highly accomplished administrator to Asia with the announcement Michael Beattie is heading to Macau.
The 47-year-old has been appointed chief steward and racing manager for the Macau Jockey Club, replacing compatriot Ian Patterson, who is returning home to be chief steward at Harness Racing Victoria.Beattie has signed a two-year contract.Beattie started out as a steward and handicapper with the Northern Rivers Racing Association, where he spent a decade. He then moved to Newcastle, where he spent another 14 years as a senior steward before opting out of the regulatory side of the industry in November 1999.Beattie then became chief executive of the Gosford Race Club, where he stayed until April of this year.Former Australian Jockey Club chief steward John Schreck, who has an advisory role with the MRC, where he worked before heading the stewards in Hong Kong, approached Beattie about five weeks ago about working overseas.
